The Living Monuments

Photo colours on paper by Aayushi Saini

“The Living Monuments” is a meditative exploration created using photo colours on paper, with each form meticulously rendered through stippling—a pixel-like technique I use to express the energy vibrations that surround us. At the heart of this piece lies a quiet reflection on the condition of stray cows in India. The heart cradled in the rootsspeaks of the ancient wisdom that once associated cows with divinity. The tree trunk and its foliage represent our spoken values and inherited traditions, while the falling branches, almost cage-like, echo the consequences of our collective apathy. The patterned base, sincere yet fractured, mimics the grandeur of our many historical monuments, now left vulnerable—splintered across the nation like scars of pride. Just as these monuments suffer from neglect, greed, and vandalism, so do the cows we once held sacred, now wandering the streets in silence. This artwork invites you to pause and question: What do we truly honor—and what have we forgotten?
